Just like story ideas … rough drafts need a lot of tough love before they can be published.
I love it. I never hesitated to appropriate an idea and polish it up, and I found giving credit to the original “author” not only warded off charges of plagiarism, but seemed to burnish the idea further.

It’s especially wondrous when you’re inspired by a seemingly unrelated art form, such as when a song gives you an idea for a story.
