Some of her stories were certainly forays into the human psyche. I’ll never forget the ethical conundrum I felt after reading “The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas.” Sadly, in some ways, I see America as Omelas and 3rd world countries as the boy. But how can we walk away from consumerism at this point? Just opining on a Sunday morning.

When I first read that story, I imagined it as a reminder that all societies — feudal, capitalist, communist, whatever — depend upon the sweat and suffering of an underclass.
