Harmony in Starlight

I’m pleased to announce my story “Harmony in Starlight” is included in the Fall 2026 issue of Tales from the Crosstimbers.

Rich with deposits of gold, nickel, and iron, the asteroid 16 Psyche has turned into a simmering battleground between the mining giant Damani Corporation, which has grabbed the best sites, and Wildcatters, independent miners who struggle in less productive areas. When open war breaks out, Deputy Malcolm Lamb races to rescue his Wildcatter friends. But he’s too late—the Damani miners take over the asteroid and arrest Lamb for siding with the Wildcatters.

The corporate regime views Lamb as an enemy, and his fellow deputies believe he’s derelict in his duty. But Malcolm Lamb isn’t giving up.

The history and lore of Old West prospecting have long fascinated me, and it’s been a romp writing about what mining could be like in the Asteroid Belt. The idea of miners in space has inspired the following stories:

“Making a Ton,” from the Minstrels in the Galaxy anthology

“A Rookie Mistake,” from Tales from the Crosstimbers

“Cathedra,” from Metaphorosis

“At the Edge of the Crater,” from Tales from the Crosstimbers

“The Calculus of Karma,” from Mystery Magazine

It’s an honor to be featured along with such fine authors. The Fall 2026 issue of Tales from the Crosstimbers is available in print or e-book on Amazon.
