Thanks for putting this up. I have felt for years that the day should not be Columbus Day or Indigenous Day, but instead, a day to celebrate all who make discoveries, Discovers’ Day.
Columbus was not a saint, and the First Americans here before Europeans were hardly saints, they warred with each other and practiced horrible tortures on other groups.
I had to do a little research. This music is not about Columbus Day. I read “[t]he lyrics, sung in the hauntingly beautiful language of Latin, speak of the longing for a better world, where there is unity, peace, and harmony.” It sounds perfect for Discovers’ Day.

It’s true neither Columbus nor the American Indians were saints. The Chipawa took the lands of the Sioux, who moved west and displaced the Kiowa and Omaha. Anglo-Saxons conquered the native Britons, and Maoris took the lands of the Moriori. Seems like everybody’s been mean to their neighbors at one time or another. Call it human nature.
It amazes me how history was used as a weapon for centuries. Bad history is such a tool.

If you haven’t seen the movie, you have a thrill to look forward to. Depardieu did an outstanding job.
